Recently I was reading the Gospel of John. While I studied the 9th Chapter, in particular, I was intrigued. Let me explain the nuggets of gold that are contained in this story.
Here we find a man who has been blind since birth. It seems that everyone has accepted his condition as normal. In other words, he was totally accepted by himself, his family and peers as a blind man with no hope of receiving his sight. When we are born with a condition, we generally submit to it’s limitations. The only people who seemed to question his condition were the Disciples of Christ.
Fortunately, for this man, God was getting him in a position to show off the power sent through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus proceeds to heal the man and moves on with His day. However, everyone marveled at his healing. It created a whole lot of buzz in the Community. So much so, the now ex-blind man is taken to the Pharisees. They of course found every reason as to why this healing could not possibly be legitimate. They questioned the man and of course diminished his experience. They did to the point of refusing to believe that the gentleman was ever blind. So the parents are brought to the meeting. They were questioned also and alas are supporting the fact that their son was in fact born blind.
For me, the astounding element of this entire story is that no one was happy for this blessed event. Instead the core of doubt and unbelief is suffocating. This man needed a cheering section for what happened; instead he is met with bickering and nasty accusations. The man, his parents and town know he was one way and now he was brand new. All the questions and reasoning could not change the miracle standing in their faces.
Not at all deterred, the gentleman finally exclaimed look you guys figure out your own argument. I just know, once I was blind but now I see. Jesus caught wind of what happened to this man and how he reacted to it and immediately sought him out. The Lord can smell the faith of His people and searches us out for intimacy. There was one final question for this bright eyed man. Jesus needed to be absolutely sure of where his new convert was. “Do you believe?” Jesus asked. Now, the whole essence of this story hinges on the next several sentences. The 90 second conversation between Jesus and this man is truly what changes everything. He knew Christ was the living God. When Christ declared who He was, instantly, the man knew Him! He knew he was the true Messiah! Upon that revelation the bible says he worshipped Jesus!
Revelation of any kind relating Jesus to our hearts will always result in our worship to Him, our entire, pure, expression of love resulting in holy worship. One tidbit from the Holy Spirit resulting in us moving closer to Christ results in our entire being praising our Lord. This act of worship is the result of our spiritual eyes being opened. When that happens we can stand anywhere and declare, “I once was blind but now I see”. What a beautiful sight it is to see the truth that sets a soul free. The real healing of any life is the healing of our soul. Yes, our friend was born with a terrible tragedy; but, worse than natural blindness is spiritual blindness. Truly, that is the darkness and can only be healed by a touch of Christ. Christ found a true disciple in this new convert. He received 2 miracles that changed his life forever.
Until the next time,
